Seeing your parents at Thanksgiving?

Your parents say it’s all taken care of. Would you know where any of it is?

The hard part usually isn’t the form. It’s getting a parent to sit down with it. The Just-in-Case Kit gives you the organizer (print, Google Sheets or Notion) and a guide with openers and answers for when they push back. Ask where things are and who to call, not what’s in the accounts. Do yours first, then start with one page. We never see a word of it.

Digital download, shown printed (binder not included). AI‑generated narrator.

The hard part isn’t the paperwork. It’s that nobody knows where anything is.

When someone ends up in the hospital, or dies, the people closest to them spend weeks piecing their life back together. Usually nobody was careless. So much of a life now lives in one person’s head and one person’s phone.

  • The phone is locked. Photos, two-factor codes, the banking app: all of it sits behind one passcode.
  • There’s no paper trail. With paperless billing, there’s no stack of statements showing which banks, cards and policies exist.
  • The documents are “somewhere.” The life insurance policy, the car title, the lease: a drawer, a cloud folder, an email from years ago.
  • Autopay keeps going. Subscriptions and memberships keep charging until someone finds each one and cancels it.
  • Small questions pile up. Who’s the vet? Which neighbor has a key? Who should hear the news first?

You don’t need a lawyer or a fireproof box to write this down. You need a clear template and a free weekend.

What’s inside

Five parts that work together

Part 3 · 12-page guide

Your Just-in-Case Weekend

A four-session plan in plain English. It covers what to write down and what to point to instead, how to decide where the binder lives, and how to start the conversation with a partner or parents, including what to say when a parent answers “It’s all taken care of” or “I don’t want to talk about dying.”

Part 4 · Notion

The Notion version

The same fifteen tabs, ready to duplicate into your own Notion workspace.

Part 5 · Short quiz

Your custom checklist

A few questions about your situation (kids, pets, a home, a business, crypto, caring for parents) build a checklist of only what applies to you. It never asks for account numbers or passwords.

How it works

One weekend, four sittings

  1. Saturday morning

    People and papers

Key people, where the documents are, medical and care wishes, dependents and pets. About two and a half hours.

  2. Saturday afternoon

    The house and the money

Home, vehicles, the accounts map, insurance and recurring bills. You write where things are and who to ask, never numbers or passwords.

  3. Sunday

Digital life and the personal pages

Subscriptions, digital life (including emergency access settings), small business, final wishes and letters.

  4. Sunday evening

Put it away and tell someone

Decide where it lives, printed or in your own Google or Notion account, then tell your trusted person where to find it. About 45 minutes.

Who it’s for

Anyone other people depend on

Adult children of aging parents

Fill it in together, or do yours first and hand them a blank copy. The guide gives you words for starting the conversation.

New parents

Guardians, the pediatrician, the daycare pickup list, the life insurance you just bought, all written down where your partner and family can find them.

Couples

Usually one person handles the bills and the passwords. This evens it out, so either of you could run the house tomorrow.

Small-business owners

Who can get into the business bank account, the domain, the payroll login? A handoff page lets someone you trust keep things running.

Not for: anyone looking for a will, trust or power of attorney. That’s a job for an attorney in your state. The kit helps you note where those documents are once you have them.

Thanksgiving

Bring it to the holidays

Thanksgiving is often the one time a year everyone is at the same table. Talking about this is awkward for an hour, and that hour may be the most useful one you spend all year.

How to make it easier

  1. Do yours first. It’s easier to ask your parents once you can say, “I just did mine.”
  2. Bring two pages, blank. Print “Key people” and “Documents locator.” They matter most and take the least time.
  3. Start with logistics. “If you ended up in the hospital, who should I call?” opens the door gently. The guide has more opening lines.
  4. Don’t try to finish. One tab together is a good first hour.

Questions

Questions people ask

Something else? Email us.

Do you see any of my information?

No. The kit is a set of files you download. You fill them in on your own device or in your own Google or Notion account, and nothing you write is ever sent to us.

The quiz only asks about your situation, like whether you have pets or a business. It never asks for account numbers, passwords or balances.

Is this a will?

No. It’s an organizer. It doesn’t replace a will, trust, power of attorney or healthcare directive, and it isn’t legal or financial advice. For those documents, talk to an attorney in your state. The binder has a place to note where they’re kept once you have them.

Should I write my passwords in it?

Usually not. The guide walks through safer options, like a password manager’s emergency access, Apple’s Legacy Contact and Google’s Inactive Account Manager. Then the binder records where to look and who has access, rather than the secrets themselves.

Can I print it?

Yes. The binder is a fillable PDF: type into it and print it, or print it blank and fill it in by hand. The guide is printable too. The video shows it printed into a ring binder with tab dividers; the binder and dividers aren’t included, and any office-supply ones will do.

Do I need Notion or Google Sheets?

No. Pick one format and ignore the rest. The PDF works in any free PDF reader. The Sheets version needs a free Google account, and the Notion version needs a free Notion account.

When do I get it?

Right away. The download link appears as soon as checkout finishes. Bookmark it; if you lose it, email us and we’ll resend it.

What if it isn’t for me?

Email us within 30 days of receiving it and we’ll refund you in full. You don’t need to give a reason.

Write it down once. Your family will know where to look.
